With an expanse of 3,210 km2 (1,995 sq mi), Timmins is one of the largest cities, geographically, in Canada. The gold rush of 1909 earned Timmins the nickname of the “City with the Heart of Gold” and mining continues to make up a large part of the city’s economic base.
